Development activations are verified against your license but <strong>do not consume your license&#8217;s activation slots<\/strong>: your production sites are unaffected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Which_Sites_Count_as_Staging\"><\/span>Which Sites Count as Staging?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any of the following is treated as a development site:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Local environments:<\/strong> <code>localhost<\/code>, <code>127.0.0.1<\/code>, and private network addresses (<code>10.x.x.x<\/code>, <code>192.168.x.x<\/code>, <code>172.16.x.x<\/code>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Development TLDs:<\/strong> any domain ending in <code>.local<\/code>, <code>.localhost<\/code>, <code>.test<\/code>, <code>.staging<\/code>, <code>.stage<\/code>, <code>.example<\/code>, or <code>.invalid<\/code>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dev\/staging subdomains:<\/strong> hosts starting with <code>dev.<\/code>, <code>test.<\/code>, <code>stage.<\/code>, <code>staging.<\/code> (e.g. <code>staging.example.com<\/code>, <code>dev2.example.com<\/code>), and dev labels inside the domain (e.g. <code>myproject.dev.example.com<\/code>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hoster and tool staging platforms:<\/strong> preview\/staging URLs from WP Engine, Kinsta (<code>*.kinsta.cloud<\/code>), Pantheon, Cloudways, Bluehost, Hostinger, SiteGround (<code>*.sg-host.com<\/code>), InstaWP (<code>*.instawp.xyz<\/code>), TasteWP, Raidboxes, WP Stagecoach, DDEV (<code>*.ddev.site<\/code>), Local by Flywheel (<code>*.flywheelsites.com<\/code>) and similar.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anything else \u2014 including <code>.com<\/code> production domains and public <code>.dev<\/code> domains \u2014 is a production site and activates normally (see the <a href=\"https:\/\/webnus.net\/dox\/modern-events-calendar\/activation\/\">Activation<\/a> article).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Activate_on_a_Staging_or_Local_Site\"><\/span>How to Activate on a Staging or Local Site<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to <strong>WordPress Dashboard > MEC > Dashboard<\/strong> on your staging\/local site.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter your <strong>real purchase code<\/strong> in the License Activation box and click <strong>Activate<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MEC verifies that your code is valid (active, not expired, not revoked) and activates the Pro features on the spot.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No activation slot is consumed on your license: your production sites and the number of remaining activations in your account at my.webnus.net are not affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_Long_Does_a_Staging_Activation_Last\"><\/span>How Long Does a Staging Activation Last?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Staging activations use a short-lived token (30 days). While it is valid, everything works as on production. When it expires, simply activate again with the same purchase code \u2014 there is no limit on how often you re-activate on staging sites, and it never touches your production activations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Moving_From_Staging_to_Production\"><\/span>Moving From Staging to Production<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When your site goes live on its final domain, activate normally with the same purchase code \u2014 this uses one activation of your license, exactly like any production site. Nothing from the staging period carries over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"FAQ\"><\/span>FAQ<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Does_a_staging_activation_really_not_use_one_of_my_activations\"><\/span>Does a staging activation really not use one of my activations?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Correct. Staging activations are verified against your license but never occupy an activation slot. You can develop and test freely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Can_I_use_an_expired_or_cancelled_purchase_code_on_staging\"><\/span>Can I use an expired or cancelled purchase code on staging?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No. Staging is exempt from the activation limit, not from the license check. The code must be valid (not expired, revoked or disabled) \u2014 exactly like on production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"I_activated_on_production_first_and_now_the_staging_clone_shows_a_license_warning\"><\/span>I activated on production first and now the staging clone shows a license warning.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is expected: the clone&#8217;s address is not the activated production address. Activate on the clone with the same purchase code \u2014 it will be verified as a staging site and will not consume an activation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"My_staging_domain_is_not_in_the_list_above\"><\/span>My staging domain is not in the list above.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If it is a clearly development-only domain, activate with your purchase code and it will most likely be detected automatically.
