2024 in Review: Modern Events Calendar Growth
Introduction: Reflecting on 2024 and MEC’s Evolution
In 2024, a survey of our clients and the event management landscape showed us that the community was very dynamic and looking for smarter solutions (especially with the arrival of AI tools to the scene) to streamline their processes plus making the overall experience more pleasing for the attendees.
In this atmosphere, Modern Events Calendar became a more appealing option for many event organizers thanks to its ability in making event management a much simpler and efficient experience, by offering easy-to-use yet rich event creating process, ticket creation, ticket sales management, and post-event reporting.
Now let’s take a look at some of the best features we added to MEC in the past year and how we improved some of the existing features.
We’ll also get a peek at what’s going on for 2025.
Let’s dive in.
Major Feature Updates in 2024
Mass emails
You can now send mass emails to people registered on your website and suggest new events to them.
Benefit: this feature makes it easier to keep in touch with your audience and re-engage with past attendees.
Partial and full payments
Your events can now accept both full payments and partial payments when users make a booking.
Benefit: your events can now become more flexible with payments and enhance attendee experience when purchasing.
Booking Management Enhancements
If you have to cancel an event occurrence, you can now move the bookings to another date and notify the users of the change.
You can set up a notification email to be sent automatically to users when the booking is moved.
Benefit: with this feature it’s much easier to manage cancellations and communicate the changes to the attendees.
Improved Ticketing and Pricing Options
Availability Dates for Tickets
You can make tickets available only during certain periods. After activating the feature from the settings menu, you can see the option in the Add Event page, the Ticket tab.
How this helps: this option makes it easier to schedule ticket sales and open bookings during a specific window to plan bookings and your events more effectively.
Discount Codes on Fees
You are now able to apply the discount codes you create on taxes and fees, not just the base ticket price.
How this helps: managing taxes and fees for charity events or any other event that needs discounts can be a tough task. This new feature makes the calculations easy and automatic for you, improving promotional flexibility and increasing conversions.
Ticket Variation Shortcode
Create a shortcode for ticket variations and place that shortcode on any page you like to guide users to that ticket.
How this helps: with this new option you have more customization and can make your booking process more dynamic.
Tax-Inclusive Pricing
With this option, your ticket prices will automatically include taxes and you won’t have to set two different things up for each. You can find this option in Settings > Booking > Taxes and Fees.
How this helps: transparency and trust is an important criteria for any business and this feature helps you be transparent regarding your ticket prices.
Enhanced Security and User Experience
Google Recaptcha v3 Support
To combat spam and enhance security, MEC integrated Google Recaptcha v3, providing a seamless yet robust layer of protection.
Benefits:
- Reduced spam submissions.
- Enhanced user trust and data security.
Request Billing Address in Stripe
MEC now supports requesting billing addresses in Stripe, improving payment processing and compliance.
Benefits:
- Enhanced data collection for organizers.
- Streamlined payment workflows.
New Content and Layout Features
Sidebar for Archive and Category Pages
With the introduction of a sidebar for the archive and category pages, navigation and content organization has become easier and users can find relevant events without effort.
Hourly Schedule Shortcode
Organizers can now display a detailed event schedule with the hourly schedule shortcode and communicate concise information to the attendees. This option is accessible in the Single Event Page Settings Advanced tab.
Developer-Focused Enhancements
New Filters for Third-Party Integration
For the developers that want to integrate third party tools with MEC, we have now updated filters to make customizations of that type easier.
Option to Remove an Event After the Last Day
Another feature that helps organizers with their events is a new option that removes the events after their last day and keeps the shortcodes clutter-free.
MEC’s Impact on Event Management Efficiency
The updates introduced in 2024 have had a profound impact on event management efficiency. Organizers have reported significant time savings, reduced operational costs, and higher attendee engagement.
For instance, the mass email feature has driven a 20% increase in repeat attendance for some users, while the new ticketing options have boosted conversion rates by 15%.
These improvements underscore MEC’s commitment to empowering event organizers with tools that deliver measurable results.
Looking Ahead: Future Opportunities and Roadmap for MEC
As we look to the future, MEC is poised to continue its evolution, embracing emerging trends in event management technology. Specifically, our efforts to integrate RESTful API into MEC, parts of which have been already done.
MEC’s roadmap reflects a dedication to continuous improvement, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of event management solutions.
